General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision of the Store when acting as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing and supervising Company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Recognizes safety as the number one priority and practices safe behaviors in everything they do.

Maintains awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone, correcting or reporting unsafe conditions promptly.

Secures the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device daily checks, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.

Removes clutter and ensures safe, clear egress to emergency exits.

Ensures customer safety by preventing and reporting accidents, and following emergency procedures.

Tests all fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when needed.

Customer Service

Treats all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.

Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times, recognizes associates using Company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represents and supports the Company brand at all times.

Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the Company Dress Code and ensures all associates adhere to it.

Keeps all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.

Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensures recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per Company best practice.

Responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed.

Processes all merchandise with a sense of urgency.

Responsible for receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.

Maintains cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.

Helps deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor when processed.

Secures and processes back‑stock in accordance with Company policy.

Merchandises the department, including back stock.

Reduces loss due to damage.

Ensures compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.

Performs floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.

Handles re‑wraps as needed.

Loss Prevention

Understands and complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintaining a large customer service presence on the sales floor.

Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguarding confidential information, cash, credit card details, and merchandise.

Maintains the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.

Conducts "Code 50" package inspections.

Executes Company Best Practices, maximizing productivity by minimizing steps and touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Ensures associates execute to Company standards at the front end.

Maintains pace, energy, and presence at the front end, managing lines to expedite customer wait time.

Trains and coaches associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.

Controls brek schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.

Ensures all equipment works properly.

Maintains proper supplies and recovery for the front‑end area.

Expedites go‑backs, ensuring they are scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.

Teaches all associates the "Scan and Bag" best practice.

Ensures salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms

Maintains and cleans the fitting rooms.

Ensures all fitting room garment tags are audited and accounted for per Company policy.

Ensures go‑back compliance throughout the day, with all returned merchandise scanned, tagged, and ticketed.

Administrative Duties (as Assigned by Store Manager)

Conducts cash pulls and bank deposits per Company policy.

Manages front‑end control when needed, including refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash in safe, register paid‑outs/ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.

Handles payroll administration including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned by Store Manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA

Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PC as required.

Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100 % of working time.

Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.

Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.

Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

Staff who work stockroom shifts must regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibilities Retail Associates, Stockroom Leads (where applicable).
