Sr. Transportation Engineer/Project Manager

Salt Lake City, UT WSP is seeking a Sr. Transportation Project Manager to join our Salt Lake City Transportation Team. Be involved in projects with our Civil Engineering Team and contribute to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. Your Impact

Lead transportation projects and project teams for agencies in the SW Mountain District (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico) as an active member of the transportation team. Lead key projects as Project Manager, Sr Lead or other roles as appropriate. Be an active participant in contract negotiations. Provide leadership and oversight to ensure quality project deliverables, including PS&E documents, engineering reports, project memorandums, etc., and manage project financial performance, risk, and QA/QC. Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development. Engage with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits. Business Development

Support clients and the industry through innovative thought and advancement of transformative transportation projects. Collaborate with local offices and national transportation delivery experts to provide clients with innovative solutions. Support transportation business development efforts, strategy development, client engagement, and pursuits in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. Represent the firm in client and industry events and associations. Assist in procuring contracts with preferred contractors for transportation projects. Develop strategic alliances and project partners to secure new work. Project/Program Management

Lead the delivery of transportation projects and project teams for agencies in the SW Mountain District as an active member of the transportation team. Lead staff and manage project management responsibilities, including oversight of project budgets, schedules, QA/QC, and risk management. Ensure quality deliverables and compliance with standards and regulations. Additional Responsibilities

Manage data collection, analysis from surveys, GIS data, and other sources for project development, design, and construction. Apply civil engineering techniques to identify improvements across project phases including concept through operation. Review construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; develop safety and phasing plans; and coordinate with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Oversee design and construction of infrastructure projects, including rehabilitation and reconstruction, drainage, pavement design, and construction safety plans. Develop and implement advanced technologies, modeling techniques, and operating strategies to enhance safety and functionality. Lead larger-scale civil engineering projects, manage budgets, track hours and expenses, and supervise subcontractors and internal team members. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and sound engineering practice. Meet with public or private entities to discuss engineering/construction challenges and programs. Develop technical reports and presentations to explain research, findings, and recommendations. Provide high-level civil engineering services and develop new business opportunities. Mentor staff and stay current with the latest engineering techniques and practices. Collaborate with professionals across disciplines on funded improvement projects and proposals. Support WSP’s marketing team during proposals and responses to client RFQs. Represent WSP in industry engagement events and professional societies. Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies. Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent. 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in transportation engineering and civil design. Engineer license required (multi-state preferred). Proficiency in civil engineering principles, design/build processes, permitting, and project work. Strong knowledge of transportation infrastructure design and relevant construction laws, codes, and regulations. Experience with planning, design, and program/construction management across rehabilitation, reconstruction, and new projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both engineering and non-engineering audiences. Ability to lead independently and guide mid-to-senior level team members with QA/QC discipline. Proficiency with technical writing and design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads). Experience in preparing technical deliverables and complex plans; strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Proven ability to coordinate subcontractors and teams to deliver tasks safely and efficiently. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies. Flexible schedule and ability to adapt to changing priorities; occasional travel may be required. Preferred Qualifications
