Overview Individuals in this position supervise and direct subordinate staff. Tasks include assigning and delegating work projects, scheduling employees to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained, and ensuring that standards of service are maintained in accordance with national standards and the mission and vision of the Summit County 911 Center. Supervisors are responsible for performance management, including work performance, coaching, mentoring, and implementing corrective action for performance and conduct issues. Supervisors perform the duties of a 911 dispatcher as required.

Responsibilities

Supervise and direct subordinate staff; assign and delegate work projects.

Schedule employees to maintain staffing levels.

Ensure standards of service consistent with national standards and the Summit County 911 Center mission.

Perform performance management: evaluate work performance, coach, mentor, and implement corrective action.

Operate as a 911 dispatcher as required.

Provide operational performance management: oversee Operations, Training, Recruitment, or Quality Assurance areas, execute plans, supervise dispatch personnel, and set priorities.

Review shift operations, recommend improvements, evaluate employee performance, and interpret goals.

Review Police/Fire/EMS calls for compliance, resolve concerns, and work with Dispatch Leads for data analysis.

Identify SOP changes, support Incident Response/Emergency Management, and conduct after‑action reviews.

Resolve personnel performance or agency complaints, implement basic corrective actions.

Support operations: schedule, replacement coverage, health and safety issues, and technical questions.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

Minimum 3 years of 911 dispatching experience; 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.

Working knowledge of law enforcement, fire, EMS procedures and practices; thorough knowledge of computer systems.

Pass criminal background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.

Ability to work 40 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Training

Successful completion of APCO Supervisory course within the first year of employment.

EMD, CPR, NIMS, CBI certifications.

Physical Demands and Work Environment Ten‑hour shifts, mostly sitting; work in a close office setting, manage multiple projects under pressure without compromising performance or wellbeing.
