Taft is currently seeking a Legal Assistant to join our team in our Cleveland office.
We are seeking a Legal Assistant with 3+ years’ experience to support our Cleveland office. A Legal Assistant serves clients by providing administrative support to attorneys and paralegals. All Taft employees operate under a “Client First” philosophy—in all things, we seek to provide exceptional services to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides skilled, proactive administrative support to attorneys and other team members in our Cleveland office.
Edits and proofreads complex legal and administrative documents, proactively identifying and communicating discrepancies or inconsistencies to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Independently manages a variety of administrative tasks, registering, calendaring, and reporting Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits; and coordinating reimbursement requests with timely follow‑up.
Exhibits outstanding client service orientation in greeting guests, scheduling meetings, and conducting telephone conferences.
Interacts with court personnel, attorneys and staff in a professional manner to obtain and provide data, answer questions, and resolve problems.
Anticipates what administrative tasks are needed and proactively performs them.
Responds to requests with a sense of urgency and effectively prioritizes work.
Demonstrates flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proactively monitors deadlines and ensures that attorneys and other team members are aware of pendency of deadlines.
Creates, maintains, and retires files in accordance with Taft’s Information Governance Policy.
Files documents with courts electronically.
Actively supports the billing process, including entering time into electronic billing management software, initial review and comment on BIMs, editing BIMs, obtaining, preparing and updating reports, preparing cover letters and emails, and following up on client and attorney inquiries.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs is required.
Proficiency with Kofax/Nuance, InTapp, LMS+, iManage, or equivalent programs preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to reason and apply common sense understanding to resolve problems and carry out instructions furnished verbally or in writing.
