Butterfly Staffing is seeking an experienced
Litigation Paralegal
to support a well-established law firm in Portsmouth, Virginia. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile litigation matters across state and federal courts, including personal injury, medical malpractice, FELA/railroad cases, workers’ compensation, and other complex practice areas. Position Overview The Litigation Paralegal will work closely with attorneys in all phases of case management—from intake through trial. Responsibilities include drafting pleadings and discovery, coordinating medical records and expert witnesses, calendaring critical deadlines, and assisting with mediation and trial preparation. Candidates must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to thrive in a fast-paced legal environment. Key Responsibilities Open and process new cases; maintain organized case files for attorney review Communicate with clients and provide regular updates Calendar SOLs, hearings, depositions, trial dates, and discovery deadlines Draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, and other legal documents for attorney review Prepare demand packages and manage document production from opposing counsel Summarize depositions, transcripts, and medical records Coordinate with medical providers, experts, and witnesses; prepare medical chronologies and exhibit binders Subpoena, track, and organize medical and other case records Assist with trial preparation including exhibits, witness lists, and pre-trial agreements Conduct legal research using electronic databases and traditional sources Provide case support during hearings, mediations, and trials (occasional travel required) Qualifications Minimum of 3 years’ litigation paralegal experience (personal injury and/or FELA/railroad law strongly preferred) Strong organizational, research, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and client management software Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines under pressure Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience Comprehensive benefits package including: Medical, dental, and vision insurance Life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance 401(k) retirement plan Paid time off and holidays Paid parking Professional work environment with in-house training and development
