Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is a multi‑campus college in the SUNY system offering more than 80 degree and certificate programs. Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of two years’ experience in post‑secondary admissions or related Student Services position.

Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, parents, students and high school counselors.

Schedule may include working evening and weekend hours based on job needs.

Spanish speaking is preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties:

The Enrollment & Retention Counselor reports to the Associate Dean of SOAR, or their designee. Responsibilities include:

Identify and contact former SUNY Reconnect eligible students who stopped out (via e‑mail, phone, text, or CRM).

Partner with academic advisors, faculty, and student affairs to ensure smooth re‑entry.

Help develop and implement initiatives to improve stop‑out re‑engagement and completion rates.

Re‑engage students by discussing their goals, barriers, and options for returning.

Analyze trends in student attrition and work on strategies to reduce future stop‑outs.

Provide personalized support and encouragement to help students feel welcomed and valued.

Assist SUNY Reconnect students in reviewing eligibility for credit for prior learning and transfer credits and connect students to those resources.

Engage students in establishing successful behaviors and monitor their process by connecting students to on‑ and off‑campus resources.

Assist with coordination and implementation of retention strategies and provide intervention for students.

Ensure SUNY Reconnect students remain engaged, retained, and are on progression for completion.

Keep current with trends and best practices related to student retention and completion.

Assist with aspects of the College Success Referral System to assist SUNY Reconnect students.

Provide guidance to non‑traditional student cohorts to foster a sense of belonging and self‑efficacy.

Facilitate retention focused workshops for SUNY Reconnect students.

Other duties assigned.

This position is contingent upon continued Grant Funding through the SUNY Reconnect Program. It is a 12‑month, full‑time position with a salary of $48,000.
