What is an EMT? The EMT provides basic medical care and transportation for emergency and non-emergency patients within the EMS system. EMPs perform interventions with basic equipment found on an ambulance and act as a link from the scene to the emergency health care system under medical oversight.
Program Details The eligible candidate will be hired as an employee and compensated at a training wage while attending Crafton Hills College through AMR-San Bernardino. The program is a ten-week training period that qualifies the employee to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT Examination. There is no cost for the class; books, tuition, fees and uniforms are paid by AMR San Bernardino. Upon successful completion, the employee will be transferred to an EMT position with an increased EMT compensation rate.
Requirements
Successful completion of an Emergency Medical Response (EMR) course is required prior to enrollment as an EMT Student.
Desired candidates must
Be at least 18 years old
Have proof of a HS diploma or GED
Valid Driver’s License
Have all required immunizations
Successfully complete the pre-employment screening which includes motor vehicle and criminal background checks, drug testing and a physical agility test
EMR Course Completion (Completed through High School or College)
What happens after the course? After successful completion, the employee will be eligible to take the written and skills test offered by NREMT EMT Examination, register with ICEMA, complete the DMV process for an Ambulance certificate, and work for AMR-San Bernardino for at least one year. Upon receipt of the state EMT-B certification, employees will be assigned their full-time shift and complete new employee training.

Salary Details Salary Range during training: $16.50/hour (8-hour shifts, average 32 hours per week as an EMS Student). Upon successful completion and certification to EMT, salary range may increase to $18.02–$35.33/hour DOE (12-hour shifts, average 20–49 hours per week).
