Position Purpose Under the supervision and direction of the Outreach Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing mobile library services and related programs for Iberville Parish Library. Major responsibilities include helping manage the outreach collection, maintaining the outreach schedule, providing help to outreach patrons, and providing programs at outreach visits. This is a full-time position with evening and weekend work as needed/scheduled.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties Assumes responsibility for helping maintain and circulate the outreach collection
Provides friendly and efficient patron service.
Understands and performs regular circulation transactions: handles material check‑in and check‑out processes, registers new patrons and updates existing patron records, renews materials, and collects fines and fees.
Discharges and sorts returned materials.
Efficiently and accurately shelves materials.
Maintains physical appearance and orderliness on shelves by shelf‑reading.
Receives and processes in‑transit items for holds and shelving.
Applies effective practices to address patron concerns or complaints.
Assumes responsibility for effective information services
Understands and performs regular information service duties: assists with finding materials, assists with readers’ advisory, places patron holds and requests, helps patrons with basic research questions.
Assists patrons with the use of library digital resources including but not limited to online databases and eContent collections.
Assumes responsibility for helping with the coordination and execution of Outreach Department mission
Ensures the Library’s professional reputation is projected and maintained.
Participates and helps at scheduled outreach events at daycares, schools, nursing homes, and other community venues.
Helps manage outreach schedule.
Actively participates in continuing education to improve skills that support the department’s goals and mission.
Assumes other duties as required or assigned
Ability to work cooperatively between library departments in effort to provide excellent public service to the community.
Performs varied library duties and assists patrons in using library services, technology, and reader advisory services.
Assists in helping patrons at public service desks on an as‑needed basis.
Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
High school diploma.
Preferred: One year experience in library services, outreach, programming, or nonprofit community relations.
Required Knowledge
Understanding of library principles, policies and procedures.
Understanding of library systems and how they work, including classification systems, materials and resources, and storage and retrieval methods.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Canva, and other relevant software.
Proficiency with mobile technologies and associated apps.
Knowledge of related computer applications.
Preferred: Working knowledge of TLC Library.Solution ILS.
Skills/Abilities
Ability to work independently and within the direction of the Outreach Coordinator and Library Administration.
Initiative to complete assigned tasks.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with the public and staff members effectively in team settings and independently.
