Unit Secretary, 3N EMU
Summa Health – Part‑time (24 hrs/week, 3:00 pm–11:30 pm)
Summary Performs and coordinates a variety of clerical duties, particularly in connection with preparing, compiling and maintaining patient records; functions as a receptionist and communication link within a patient‑care area. Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse, and patient care support duties related to environmental, dietary, transportation, supplies, and light maintenance activities.
Formal Education Required
High‑school level coursework in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics
Experience And Training Required
Six (6) months of either direct patient care experience or clerical office experience providing knowledge of utilizing a computer to access information
Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course or equivalent and a score of 70% or greater on a screening medical terminology test
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications
Ability to effectively interact with patients/customers with an understanding of their need for self‑respect and dignity
Knowledge of computer keyboard and comfort using Windows‑based software systems
Team orientation: accepts and offers constructive feedback, supports team goals, collaborates with patient‑care team members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods, and/or reduce costs
Alignment with Summa’s patient‑care vision: create a patient‑care environment focused on the needs and expectations of the patient and customer
Self‑directed execution of responsibilities within a team structure and initiative to contribute beyond formal duties (e.g., suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on team direction)

Good organizational skills
Effective communication with physicians and other health‑care professionals to exchange information and assist with patient care

Level of Physical Demands
Heavy: Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25‑50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10‑20 pounds of force continuously to move objects
Exposure to blood, body fluids, and sharps; risks of falls, strains, and contagious diseases due to location within a health‑care environment
Salary $17.43 /hr – $20.92 /hr (exclusive of any bonuses or differentials)
