is seeking qualified candidates for a role that involves traveling to customer locations to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain railcars to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance with industry regulations. Location and travel : Qualified candidates should reside in OH, WV, or NC and be willing to travel to locations east of the Mississippi River. Schedule : Ten days on, four days off. Role focus : Work with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems; perform routine maintenance and detailed repairs to keep railcars in optimal condition. This position operates at an elevated level of proficiency with limited supervision.
Responsibilities
Perform thorough inspections of railcars to identify wear, damage, or malfunction.
Diagnose issues using tools, technical manuals, and schematics.
Repair or replace defective components such as wheels, brakes, couplers, and structural elements.
Weld, cut, and fabricate materials as needed to repair railcars.
Perform maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with AAR and FRA safety standards and industry regulations.
Follow workplace safety protocols, including using PPE properly.
Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and repair manuals.
Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other technicians to prioritize and complete tasks.
Communicate repair progress and issues to management and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; technical training or certification in railcar repair or related field preferred.
ASCTD (Automated Single Car Test Device) Certified; weld certification and capability of air arching preferred.
Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair; knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Prior experience in railcar maintenance or a similar mechanical role.
Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate in varying weather conditions.
Knowledge of industry regulations (AAR standards).
