The plant is a fully scrubbed coal-fired generating station. The role reports to the Plant Environmental Manager. The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $100,000 annually, adjusted based on experience and other factors. Successful candidates will participate in Talen Energy’s Short-Term Incentive program. Operate and maintain the FGD Wastewater Treatment Plant (FGDWWT) and Raw Water system safely and reliably, ensuring environmental compliance. This role requires a 12-hour rotating shift, including holidays, weekends, overtime, and potential call-ins. It demands multi-skilled knowledge, including plant operations and basic maintenance skills. Responsibilities:
Operate and shut down the FGDWWT and Raw Water systems via remote controls and VDTs. Manage flow rates and sludge volumes. Operate filter presses and coordinate material handling. Serve as lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) authority. Oversee chemical unloads, including bulk trailers and totes. Conduct sample collection and lab analysis. Perform plant rounds and support plant operations as needed. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment. Skills/Competencies:
Technical aptitude for operating interconnected systems. Ability to monitor instruments and controls closely. Timely decision-making and task prioritization. Reliability and effective communication skills. Preferred Education & Experience:
Post-high school courses in engineering, physical science, or technical studies. Five years of wastewater treatment experience. Experience with PC applications and company software. Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver’s license meeting company standards. Class 7 Industrial Wastewater license (MDE requirement). DOT Hazmat certification for unloading hazardous materials. Physical & Working Conditions:
Must be able to walk, climb, lift, work outdoors in severe weather, and work on rotating shifts, including nights and weekends. Ability to lift 45 pounds overhead and 75 pounds from the floor, work near high voltage, and operate manual dexterity is required. Travel to other facilities may be necessary. Physical & Mental Demands:
Must handle complex data, solve problems, and maintain focus under deadlines. Work involves outdoor conditions, exposure to hazards, and the need for manual dexterity and communication skills. Work Environment:
Exposure to weather, chemicals, high voltage, heights, and noisy environments. Safety precautions are essential.
