Job Title Operations Supervisor, Plant Production

Responsibilities

Manage the daily operations of the plant and implement the Operating Plan; identify areas for improvement or development.

Ensure plant operating conditions are maintained within optimum limits.

Maintain thermal and electrical outputs at high levels of efficiency; report and address normal, abnormal, or emergency plant conditions per policy or Plant Manager direction.

Provide guidance to the maintenance supervisor regarding equipment conditions and required maintenance activities.

Prepare required reports for the owner and/or utility; oversee daily upkeep of plant logs and records.

Maintain and update the plant Operations Manuals and procedures; ensure policies and procedures are current.

Foster morale and motivation of operations personnel and address employee concerns.

Ensure proper implementation of the water chemistry program, including testing, inspections, and maintenance; drive process and procedure improvements in plant chemistry programs.

Assist with locating, screening, and hiring operating personnel; complete other tasks as directed by the Plant Manager.

Work from established procedures, operate independently with general direction, and make decisions within policy constraints.

Perform duties safely in varied, sometimes complex situations, ensuring compliance with environmental permits and procedures at all times.

Communicate plant condition and performance information to the Plant Manager, fellow supervisors, and maintenance personnel; provide suggestions for improvement.

Strive for an optimum cost-benefit ratio in duties performed.

Collaborate with the Office Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, and Compliance Coordinator to support daily plant operation.

Oversee and administer plant operating procedures including startup/shutdown, notification procedures, NERC, LOTO, Safety, Environmental, and document control.

Coordinate with the NERC compliance organization to ensure adherence to current standards and procedures.

Support plant budget development, forecasting, cost tracking, budget variance reporting, and long-range planning.

Support environmental compliance and drive process and procedure improvements; coordinate outages and project execution with staff and vendors as needed.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent required.

5+ years of power plant or similar experience required.

Gas turbine experience is highly desirable.

At least 2 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel required.

Strong leadership and motivational skills required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic math skills, good verbal communication skills, and proficiency with power and precision tools.

Ability to work cooperatively with others and without direct supervision.

Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions in operation and maintenance of power plant equipment.

Work within all safety practices and procedures; respond to alarms and variations in sound.

Basic data entry/computer skills; team-oriented with the ability to collaborate on challenges.

Work Environment

Protective equipment is required in certain duties (hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, etc.).

Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Extended hours, varied shifts, 12-hour shifts, weekend/holiday work as scheduled; on-call may be required.

Indoor and outdoor work environments.

Physical Abilities

Physical requirements may include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs/ladders, and regularly lifting up to 50 pounds.

Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program, including post-offer physical and drug screening; may include post-employment random testing and smoking restrictions around the facility.
