Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, Inc. is seeking an experienced Asphalt Milling Foreman to join our Operations team. If you are an experienced, motivated, and skilled individual, we would like to meet you!
Job Description:
Supervise and direct assigned crew in their activities to prepare and mill or remove asphalt. All specifications must meet expectations in an efficient, safe, and satisfactory way.
Job Duties:
Perform all duties within the guidelines set forth in the Employee Policies and Procedures Manual.
Create an atmosphere whereby all subordinates are encouraged to improve their skills and maintain a high level of morale for themselves and other employees.
Ensure that the crew starts working on time and works the number of hours for which they are assigned and paid.
Assist and direct assigned crew in the following areas: Using equipment in a safe and proper manner, improving job performance, controlling costs, improving quality of work, increasing productivity, improving communications, and housekeeping of projects.
Supervise and direct the activities of assigned personnel, instructing them in the proper operation, technique, use, and maintenance of equipment.
Ensure that all new personnel receive proper orientation to acquaint them with the company, policies, safety, and their job duties/responsibilities.
Participate in the periodic evaluation of all assigned personnel; discussing their contributions to the company, development, and possible pay adjustments.
Develop a cooperative working relationship with all operations and project managers, superintendents, and other foremen.
Cooperate with the Human Resources and Risk Management departments. Foreman must be knowledgeable about all aspects of EEO and Safety and ensure compliance among all crew members.
Conduct a continuous evaluation of cost and yields, material yields, plans and schedules, salaries, promotions, job assignments, equipment needs, personnel needs, on-the-job training, program and job safety, security and crime prevention, and quality control. Report any problems or changes to the Operations Manager or Superintendent.
Ensure all work undertaken complies with all local laws and ordinances concerning construction and related activities.
Maintain close contact and a good working relationship with the general public, engineers, inspectors, and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image. Maintain a courteous and considerate disposition toward all groups.
Write, maintain, and submit all required daily reports. Verify their correctness and transmit them promptly to the Operations Manager or Superintendent.
Log important conversations, activities, and events for future reference.
Experience & Knowledge:
Over one year and up to three years of experience with the techniques used for milling asphalt and related material. A complete understanding of specifications and grade is required along with supervisory responsibilities.
Thorough knowledge of the specialized field of paving, including the use of drawings and a variety of precision measuring instruments, as well as knowledge of manufacturing and techniques associated with asphalt and paving.
Complexity of Duties:
Diversified duties involving substantial knowledge of this specialized field. Position requires the use of judgment to plan and make complex decisions, including the sequence of setup, operations and processes, analyzing facts or circumstances, solving problems regarding transactions, and determining the consequences of actions to be taken within limits of standard or accepted practice.
Errors:
Position is first tier for recognizing and preventing errors. Errors could involve serious losses to the company due to rework, waste of material, damage to equipment, loss of client goodwill, or safety hazards.
Contact with Others:
Regular contact with subordinates and other departments to complete projects. Foreman is required to furnish or obtain information from others, discussing subjects related to projects or other supervisory matters which require tact to avoid friction and obtain cooperation.
Confidential Data:
Position requires integrity and discretion to safeguard confidential data such as cost, wage, and personnel information. Disclosing such information with others other than supervisory personnel could have an adverse internal effect and/or minor external effect.
Physical Activity & Demand:
Moderate physical effort required on a daily basis; frequently lifting or moving average weight material (over 25 pounds) or occasionally heavy material (over 50 pounds).
Position requires the ability to climb onto machines, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and grasp objects. Expected to walk and stand for sustained periods of time and perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communication.
Mental & Visual Demand:
Continuous mental and visual attention required to oversee projects, personnel, and equipment. Position requires constant alertness on the job.
Working Conditions:
Somewhat disagreeable working conditions with continuous exposure to dust, dirt, seasonal temperature variances, and machine noise.
Scope of Supervision:
Position is responsible for the immediate supervision over a crew of two but seldom over 10 personnel. Foreman is expected to assign, review, and check work while eliminating difficulties under standardized procedures.
