Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts Performs complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and assisting in transportation planning studies Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation Performs other job responsibilities as assigned Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelors Degree in engineering or related science; a bachelors or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. Experience by level: Transportation Engineer II:
5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full-time or prorated part-time). Related graduate education may be substituted year-for-year. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications apply. Transportation Engineer III:
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience (full-time or prorated). Substitutions apply. Transportation Engineer IV:
7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience (full-time or prorated). Substitutions apply. Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver license; driving a state vehicle required Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) Underwater bridge inspections: Open Water Diver certification (if applicable) Bridge Inspection: NICET Level III or IV or a comprehensive training course per requirements Out-of-state PE license holders must meet Texas requirements within specified timelines and sign an agreement to obtain Texas license Preferred Qualifications:
Familiar with software: Bentley OpenRoads Designer, Bentley MicroStation, HY-8, HECRAS, HECHMS Competencies
Highway construction design applications Plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, and compliance Construction phasing and sequencing Engineering workstations and applications for planning and design Design and plan preparation methods and requirements For III and IV: Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design, pavement concepts, geometric design relations to traffic operations IV: Coordinating and directing multiple projects Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Sedentary work; lift up to 10 lbs; occasional carrying of files/tools Repetitive motion of wrists/hands/fingers Close visual acuity for data and computer work Conditions of Employment

Salary ranges for the positions: II $69,572.00–$114,099.00/year; III $76,530.00–$129,430.00/year; IV $84,182.00–$142,374.00/year. Position may be filled at various levels based on experience and needs.
