QA/QC Structural Steel Inspector - Field Service
Job Summary We are seeking a qualified QA/QC Structural Steel Inspector to ensure compliance with quality standards in structural steel fabrication and installation. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of structural steel codes, welding processes, and inspection procedures. They will play a key role in maintaining quality assurance and control for steel structures in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
Location Ideally based near McGregor, TX; traveling to job sites by car/flights.
Contract 3+ months.
Pay Up to $60 DOE.
Key Responsibilities
Field Service, preferably with Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) experience
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of structural steel components and assemblies.
Verify compliance with codes, standards, and project specifications (e.g., AWS, AISC, ASTM, or project-specific guidelines).
Inspect welds for conformity to standards and verify welding processes and qualifications.
Coordinate and oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods such as ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant testing.
Maintain detailed inspection reports, logs, and quality control documentation.
Review and verify Mill Test Reports (MTRs), certificates of compliance, and material traceability.
Monitor on-site structural steel erection and bolting operations to ensure compliance with approved procedures.
Conduct torque testing for bolted connections as needed.
Collaborate with project teams, fabricators, and contractors to address and resolve quality issues.
Provide recommendations for corrective actions or process improvements when deficiencies are identified.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Degree or certification in engineering, construction management, or a related field (preferred).
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent.
NDT Level II Certification (e.g., MT, PT, UT).
ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector.
Minimum [X] years of experience in QA/QC inspection for structural steel fabrication and erection.
Familiarity with AISC, AWS D1.1, and other relevant standards.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
