General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors open and close the Store, supervise associates, and maintain a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean workspace at all times, while executing and supervising company operational processes as needed.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors in everything you do.
Maintain high awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
Secure building including entrance/exit control, electronic article surveillance devices, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
Ensure customer safety, including accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize associates through company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the company brand at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code and ensure all associates do the same.
Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
Manage daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practice.
Receive merchandise truck when needed.
Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
Receieve all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries).
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor when processed.
Ensure any back‑stock is secured and processed per company policy.
Merchandise the department including back stock.
LReduce loss due to damage.
Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area.
Manage floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
Perform re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program, maintain a strong customer service presence on the floor.
Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers, safeguarding confidential information, cash and credit card data, and merchandise.
Maintain the Public View Monitor system properly.
Conduct “code” package inspections.
Execute all company best practices while maximizing productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Execute best practices to maximize productivity.
Maintain pace, energy and presence at the front end, managing the line to reduce customer wait time.
Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
Control retail associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
Ensure all equipment works properly.
Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front‑end area.
Expedite go‑backs, ensuring they are properly scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
Teach associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
Maintain the maintenance and cleanliness of fitting rooms.
Audit all fitting room garment tags to ensure compliance with company policy.
Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day; all merchandise returned must be ticketed, scanned, nudged, and security‑tagged as needed.
Administrative Duties Assigned by Store Manager
Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are performed per company policy.
Control front end when needed, including refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills, cash in safe, register paid‑outs/ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.
Administer payroll, including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the store manager.

Excellent verbal communication skills.
Fluency in English.
Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail environments.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PC.
Spend 100 % of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store.
Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
Occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 lb.
Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
Stockroom shifts require regularly pushing, pulling and lifting more than 20 lb.
