Community Risk Reduction Plans Examiner $10,749.43-$13,717.59 Monthly $128,993.16 - $164,511.08 Annually Closes, Monday, November 10, 2025 at 3p.m. Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal, is responsible for performing plan review, inspections, and other duties as required. The position will also be involved to varying degrees with public education, public relations, exterior hazard abatement, engine company pre-fire planning, record keeping, and report writing. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Receives supervision from the Fire Marshal. There may be limited supervisory tasks assigned to this classification. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Review plans to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local fire safety laws, ordinances, and codes. Prepare and review a variety of plans, including planning applications, subdivision of land, site plans for access and water supply, building and tenant improvement plans, fire protection systems (including fire sprinkler, fire alarm, kitchen hood extinguishing systems), and other plan reviews related to fire code activities. Attend meetings with local government agencies (planning and building departments), architects, contractors, developers, and the public. Utilize the District’s citation process when appropriate and pursue voluntary compliance when needed. Conduct in-house training and update field inspection staff on changes in enforced codes. Formulate standardized field inspection guidelines and record keeping systems for construction projects. Provide supervision, work direction, and technical assistance as directed. Participate in the code change process at state and international levels. Utilize tools and technology identified by the District related to performance of tasks. Support emergency operations as requested and appropriate. Perform inspections of new and existing buildings; witness tests for fire protection equipment and verify compliance with codes and standards. Prepare correspondence, reports, and records; confer with architects, engineers, developers, etc., on projects. Attend training courses and professional organization meetings as directed; perform surveys of fire hazards and process complaints. Participate in public education and public relations programs; perform other related duties as directed. Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
At least three years’ experience in an organized fire prevention/fire and life safety bureau. Experience must include fire inspection, plan review, and public education/relations. Education / Certification:
An Associate of Arts/Science Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. The successful completion of the following California State Fire Training: Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, Fire Inspector 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, and Plans Examiner 1A, 1B, 1C, and CA Statues and Regulations. Desirable Education / Certification:
Must have or obtain within one year of employment certification as an International Code Council Fire Plans Examiner. Must maintain certification as a condition of employment. Must obtain within three years of employment California State Fire Marshal certification for Plans Examiner. The Fire District reserves the right to evaluate combinations of education and experience that indicate the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. License:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license. Maintenance of a valid California driver's license is required as a condition of employment. Application Process
