Assistant Retail Operations Manager SSA Group at Buffalo Zoo is seeking a talented Assistant Retail Operations Manager to oversee multiple Gift Shop and Gift Kiosk/Carts locations. All applications must be submitted within 7 days of posting; earlier submissions receive priority.

Base Pay Range $19.00/hr - $21.00/hr

Responsibilities

Lead and motivate staff to exceed customer and client expectations.

Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate team members, managing performance, coaching, and personnel exits.

Develop training programs to support employee development.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Uphold company policies and procedures.

Execute SSA EXTRA Guest Service steps for memorable guest experiences.

Support inventory control programs and ensure merchandise presentation standards.

Report daily, weekly, and monthly sales through an internal ledger.

Maximize sales by communicating inventory opportunities to the Retail Operations Manager and Buyer.

Enforce cash handling procedures and troubleshoot POS functionality.

Oversee cleanliness of all shops and displays.

Conduct daily One-Minute Meetings with the team.

Forecast sales and maintain sales analysis; support payroll and controllable profit within budget.

Analyze sales and inventory to identify new sales opportunities.

Promote inclusive and supportive workplace culture.

Support sustainability and conservation initiatives and community engagement efforts.

Perform other tasks as deemed necessary.

Job Requirements

Strong interpersonal and communication skills across client, management, and HQ personnel.

Proven leadership with a focus on team building and partnership.

Exceptional problem‑solving, decision‑making, and organizational skills.

Financial, merchandising, analytical, and planning expertise.

Flexibility in a fast‑paced environment.

Basic computer proficiency.

Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 35 lbs.

Availability for varied hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Previous Experience

2–3 years of Retail Management experience preferred.

Visual Merchandise experience required.

All education backgrounds accepted; must be 18 or older.

Compensation and Benefits

Full‑time, non‑exempt; eligible for overtime pay.

Vacation/Time Away From Work (TAFW) plan: up to 144 hours based on tenure.
