External Affairs Specialist
Position Description: Reporting to the Director ESG & Social Impact, you will play a key role in advancing initiatives that support our community impact, philanthropy, government affairs and other corporate responsibility programs. This includes collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to organize and participate in political and community events driving our purpose to Gro More Good. You will also provide grant management support for The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation, as well as corporate volunteerism and community impact initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, with excellent organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Business or a related field. Experience: 1-3 years of experience in community relations, government relations, state or local government or a similar role. Mindset: Proactive and solutions-oriented. Skills: Excellent communication (written and verbal), planning, and organizational skills. Proven ability to manage projects, engage stakeholders, and build collaborative relationships. Availability: Ability to travel and attend meetings and events during evenings and weekends as needed, up to 20%. This will be a hybrid role that will be expected to work 2-3 days at our Corporate Office in Marysville, OH. Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with or in philanthropic, government or community organizations. Experience organizing and speaking at events and public meetings. Familiarity with legislative or community impact programs. Experience in relationship management and member engagement. Additional Desired Attributes: Passion for gardening, community engagement, and innovation. A strong desire to contribute to the “Gro More Good” initiative nationwide. Key Responsibilities
Community Impact and Philanthropy Grant Management & Partnerships: Support the complete grant life cycle, from proposal to compliance and reporting. Cultivate strong relationships with grantees and internal business units to ensure they receive comprehensive support. Event & Volunteer Coordination: Plan and execute philanthropic and community-focused activities. Organize employee participation and develop necessary support materials and calendars. Engagement: Help identify, develop and support local impact opportunities, such as nonprofit partnerships and community sponsorships. Government Affairs and Policy Policy Monitoring & Analysis: Track and analyze legislative developments at the local, state, and federal levels to identify impacts on the company. Prepare clear and concise summaries for internal teams and leadership. Government Relations Support: Assist with preparing materials, including policy briefs, talking points, and correspondence for meetings with government officials and other external partners. Help develop presentations, newsletters and reports to showcase our government affairs work. General External Affairs Support Communications: Partner with the corporate communications team to produce issue briefings, newsletters, and articles that highlight the impact of our philanthropic partnerships, community events and policy positions. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Team Support: Collaborate with associates and stakeholders to coordinate a wide range of activities, including virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, and events. Manage the team calendar and handle various administrative tasks to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the External Affairs department. Compensation and Benefits
The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $67,800.00 – $79,800.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location. For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
