SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS
Position located at 4050 Taylor Street, San Diego, CA. Permanent, full‑time. Minimum salary $11,437 – $14,315 per month. Callouts and occasional non‑standard shifts.
Responsibilities
Direct and supervise a team of engineering employees in developing and implementing minor projects and emergency contracts.
Participate in the district’s emergency response efforts and respond to field emergencies.
Prepare written correspondence, plan projects, and supervise construction contract administration.
Analyze staffing and resource needs, monitor project scopes, costs and schedules, and manage contract changes.
Communicate with internal and external partners, give presentations, and maintain safety protocols.
Qualifications
Valid California civil engineer registration (Professional Engineers).
Valid driver’s license to operate state‑owned or leased vehicles.
Experience with roadway rehabilitation, pavement, drainage, structural/geotechnical, and construction‑related matters.
Experience in contract administration, change orders, field inspections, and testing.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and lead work teams.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Working Conditions Climate‑controlled office, travel to field sites. Exposure to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and varying weather. Occasional outdoor work.
