Facilities Management Division Overview The University of Georgia Facilities Management Division is the largest of seven divisions reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The division employs over 900 personnel who manage, operate and maintain campus landscapes, buildings and infrastructure to promote long‑term sustainability.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.

Position Summary This position requires expert technical knowledge and skills for the operation and maintenance of UGA campus building chilled water production systems. The systems include chillers, cooling towers, chilled water and condenser water pumps, distribution piping, control valves, actuators, automation control, and chiller microprocessor control.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies This position has expert level technical knowledge and skills in the operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building chilled water and hot water production systems and components. Responsibilities include:

Chiller and cooling tower operation, troubleshooting, and repair

Chilled water and condenser water treatment

Troubleshoot and install chiller sensors, boards, and relays

Troubleshooting, testing and assisting in the commissioning of new building chilled water production systems

Building Automation System (BAS) chilled water production control

Reading and interpreting mechanical plans and wiring diagrams

Analyzing and correcting communication issues

Analyzing and measuring fluid and air dynamics

Adherence to and implementation of EPA refrigerant handling guidelines and obtaining a universal refrigerant license

Physical Demands

Lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, working overhead, climbing stairs, using regular and/or extended ladders throughout an 8‑hour shift.

Lift up to 75 lbs during a work shift.

Duties / Responsibilities

Perform checks and take corrective action to ensure chilled water production systems and cooling towers operate per designed flow, volume, and temperature requirements. (45%)

Install, maintain, and repair building chilled water mechanical components such as rods, condensers, and evaporators. (25%)

Diagnose and solve a wide range of operational issues arising from mechanical, electrical, and automated controls of chilled water systems (e.g., sensors, boards, starters, relays, actuators). (20%)

Troubleshoot, test, and assist in commissioning new building chilled water production systems. (5%)

Assist and support with other duties as assigned by the Building HVAC Shop Manager.
