About This Position

The incumbent supports the activities of the university’s radiation safety program, which serves a diverse group of individuals in a research-intensive environment; thus, the incumbent must work to assist university personnel in meeting safety standards. Under the general supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), the incumbent oversees or assists with many functions of the radiation safety program, monitors for radiation safety compliance, and implements radiation safety practices for a broad range of OSU Stillwater (OSU-Stillwater) and OSU Tulsa (OSU-T) research activities. Responsibilities

Manage and maintain the dosimetry program of the University’s radiation safety program. Maintain the University’s laser safety program under the discretion of the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO). Provide guidance and operate as a resource pertaining to radiation safety for faculty, staff, and students; perform or assist with day-to-day functions of the radiation safety program. Provide operational and management support to the RSO and the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) in fulfilling the requirements of the university’s radiation safety program while adhering to the conditions of the University’s licenses and permits. Ensure alignment with licenses and permits and support compliance activities. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's in Physics; Engineering; physical, chemical, or biological sciences; or a related field. (degree conferred on or before start date) One year of related work experience, including work within a radiation safety or compliance program, preferably in an academic research environment; experience with radioactive materials and/or X-rays or as a member of a radiation safety team. Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:

Valid driver’s license Eligible for employment in areas governed by the U.S. Patriot Act and related regulations Ability to complete DOJ/FBI security risk assessment if required Within two years, complete the 5-week Applied Health Physics course offered by ORAU or have already completed it (or equivalent)

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Ability to interpret license and permit conditions Proficient with radiation detection instruments and counting equipment Experience with radioisotopes, X-ray machines, and/or Class 3b or Class 4 lasers, including transportation of radioactive materials Excellent written and verbal communication Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with a diverse audience Strong working knowledge of mathematics Ability to manage multiple tasks accurately and in an organized manner Proficient in MS Office, databases, and email Possibility to enroll in respiratory protection program and obtain medical clearance; capable of wearing PPE for extended periods Knowledge of radiation protection principles, ionizing/non-ionizing radiation, dose units, detectors, biological hazards, and NRC regulations May be required to participate in the University’s occupational health and safety program; assist in preparing the radiation safety program evaluation report for annual review

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience with Class 3b and Class 4 lasers; education or certifications in laser safety. Work Schedule

Normal hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm; additional hours may be required to meet deadlines. Travel is required, including travel for training and professional development. Due to communication requirements, the incumbent will maintain a cellular or other electronic communication device.
