Reporting to Sterile Processing leadership, collaborate with the Director of Sterile Processing, the Sterile Processing Manager, and the Educator at each facility to ensure proper sterile processing education, training, and competencies are completed. Work closely with other CSPD‑Education Coordinators and serve as liaison at assigned facilities to promote standardization of sterilization, decontamination, assembly, sterile storage, and sterilization processes across Prisma Health. This role requires adherence to standards and guidelines from TJC, AAMI, FDA, and CDC.

Essential Functions

Responsible for all training, competencies, and education in decontamination, assembly, sterile storage, and sterilization processes and standard precautions at each assigned facility.

Maintain employee education files—including competencies, continuing education units, and required documentation—for all employees in the Sterile Processing departments of the Midlands, including managers and supervisors.

Conduct initial and ongoing assessments for all staff members to develop individualized education plans as needed.

Develop and implement monthly and weekly department education plans to ensure prioritized educational needs are met and coordinate on‑site training provided by outside vendors.

Ensure the departments meet all regulations, standards, and guidelines consistent with AAMI, TJC, CMS, CDC, OSHA, and FDA requirements, and promote standardization of sterilization processes for each assigned facility.

Maintain and update knowledge of industry standards and evidence‑based practices through active research and professional participation; promote performance improvement and quality control related to technical skills.

Participate in the creation and revision of policies and procedures related to Sterile Processing within Prisma Health, as well as educational changes to the instrument tracking system.

Provide recommendations to sterile processing leadership to assist in decisions regarding coaching, counseling, mentorship, and performance evaluation; fully accountable for final decision regarding training.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job is a non‑management position that reports to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Completion of a formal CSPD (Sterile Processing) program. Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study preferred.

Experience – Three (3) years CSPD (Sterile Processing) experience.

In Lieu Of

In lieu of related coursework only, will accept BS in a related field and 2 years related experience or High School diploma (or GED) and 4 years related experience.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

Certification as either CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) from HSPA or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician) from CBSPD.

Certification as CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) from HSPA or CSIS (Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist) from CBSPD preferred.

Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) from HSPA preferred.

Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) from HSPA or CBSPD preferred.
