The Gaston Group, LLC . The role supports protective services through intake and coordination of information for reports of abuse, neglect, and dependency of children, in alignment with state and program guidance.

Gaston Social Services provides protection, care, and empowerment for children and adults who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves through administration of federal, state, and county programs.

Responsibilities

Gather, explore, document, interpret, evaluate, and staff information from reporters of child protective services issues via telephone, office visits, mail, and e-mails. Make recommendations to superiors on whether information meets NC statutory definitions and policy guidance, and document CPS reports in NC-Fast/CWS. Conduct work in a timely manner to initiate accepted CPS reports within required timeframes.

Provide initial agency responses to parents, children, relatives, delinquent juveniles, community partners, and other reporters regarding troubling relationships and occurrences, including counseling and referrals to appropriate services. Evaluate needs and refer to helping agencies and determine DHHS intervention suitability.

Staff information received with superiors as needed to facilitate the best possible decision, which may include court testimony. Re-contact reporters to obtain further or more detailed information as defined by policy.

Complete necessary documentation to move reports and intake calls through the intake process, maintain intake logs, and authorize specified funding sources as determinable at intake.

Compile case histories of families previously served by Gaston County DHHS for current assessments or investigations in other counties.

Be available to work mandatory emergency shelters and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

BSW from an accredited school of social work

Four-year degree in a human services field from an accredited college/university and one year directly related experience

Four-year degree from an accredited college/university and two years directly related experience

Additional Information

The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening prior to employment.

In compliance with G.S. 153A-94.2(b), if the position involves working with children, the County may require a criminal history check conducted by the SBI, in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26.
