Reporting Relationship:
The legal assistant provides legal support under the supervision of one or more attorneys assigned to specific cases. The relationship with the firm is managed by the attorney responsible for the case.
Authority:
The legal assistant is prohibited from practicing law, including offering legal advice or filing documents under their own signature, in accordance with the Florida Bar Association’s Rules of Professional Conduct and applicable statutes. All work must be performed under the direct supervision of an attorney and solely to support the attorney’s work. When interacting with clients, the legal assistant must avoid engaging in the unauthorized practice of law, such as answering questions about case outcomes, advising on specific actions, or providing opinions on case merits.
Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys with case management, document preparation, client communication, and administrative tasks to support the litigation team.
Prepare and draft legal documents such as complaints, notices, and motions.
Organize and maintain files, correspondence, and case materials.
File legal documents through the Florida E-Filing Portal, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
Schedule appointments, hearings, mediations, and depositions, ensuring compliance with court rules and deadlines.
Ensure deadlines are correctly entered into Filevine.
Send signed summons for service.
Pay and file litigation-related invoices.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
2-3 years of related experience in personal injury claims or litigation
Working knowledge of Florida automobile insurance, Rules of Civil Procedure, and the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal
Ability to obtain a Public Notary Certificate within 6 months of employment
