Medical Social Worker - Cancer Center - Casual/PRN
Location: Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center, 8303 Dodge Street, Omaha, NE Work Schedule: Typical schedule is Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. From March 2025 through May 2025 there is opportunity to work 40 hours per week; otherwise this is a casual/PRN position with days/hours that may vary weekly. Job Summary
Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates a comprehensive social work program in the Cancer Center, including identification and referral of patients in need of social work interventions, and collaboration with oncology teams to support patient and family care. Responsibilities
Provides medical social work services to patients/families treated in the Cancer Center to ensure a comprehensive program of treatment. Identifies patients in need of social work interventions through case-finding and relationships with referral sources. Maintains patient records with assessment, plan, and interventions to meet identified needs. Supports Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center clinics as requested; facilitates and leads cancer center support groups; ensures availability of facilitators; assesses ongoing viability of support groups; identifies and reviews patient needs for social work services. Participates in community outreach and education programs; provides information on federal, state, local, and non-governmental financial assistance programs; assists with applications for financial aid; maintains resource files. Provides information about the Cancer Center and its services to patients/families; distributes and updates information packets for newly diagnosed patients. Links patients to appropriate health system and community services to promote continuity of care and resource utilization. Represents the Cancer Center in the community, offers workshops on psychosocial aspects of cancer care, and participates in education programs and committees. Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates survivor/family/community support programs; provides age-appropriate care information; conducts or coordinates screenings and referrals as needed; collaborates with inpatient social work to ensure continuity of care. Promotes safety culture and ensures compliance with Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals; monitors environmental safety and follows up on variances and patient/family concerns; participates in risk assessment and reporting. Job Requirements
Education
Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) required. Experience
Minimum 2 years in a healthcare setting; oncology experience required. License/Certifications
Certified Master Social Worker (CMSW) or Master Social Worker (MSW) required. Oncology Social Work Certification (OSW-C) preferred. Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) certification preferred. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Knowledge of oncologic diseases and their psychosocial implications, and related interventions and resources. Physical Requirements
Light work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force. Physical Activity
