Do you have compassion and a desire to help children and families in need? The Prince William County Department of Social Services is seeking a Human Services Caseworker in our Family Support Services (FSS) Division. The FSS Division manages state-mandated programs related to resource homes (foster homes), foster care, adoption, and Interstate Compact on Placement of Children (ICPC). We are a team-oriented agency looking for staff committed to excellence and dedicated to positively impacting the quality of life of children and families involved in the child welfare system. The focus of the FSS Division is to ensure safety, well-being and permanency for our children and families.

About This Role: As a Human Services Caseworker, you will work in one of several programs that support children and families in foster care and adoption. Key responsibilities of the role include:

Identifying appropriate placements for children in foster care.

Providing ongoing oversight of children in their placements.

Analyzing risk and ensuring the safety of children and families.

Assessing strengths and needs of children and families.

Accessing services for children and families to support the permanency goal.

Assisting families with preparing for and achieving permanency.

Communicating with stakeholders about the welfare of children in care.

Interpreting policies and procedures.

Maintaining current and accurate case records.

Preparing court documents.

Attending and testifying in court.

The successful candidate will have previous case management experience working with children and families in one or more of the following areas: child protective services, foster care, adoption, and Interstate Compact on Placement of Children (ICPC). They will have knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures pertaining to child welfare.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a human services field; or bachelor’s degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in child welfare, foster care, or adoption programs.

Preferences:

Master's degree in Social Work or related human services field

Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license

Knowledge of local, state, and federal child welfare policies and practices

Bilingual English/Spanish

Three years or more of experience with the following:

Working in child welfare, foster care, or adoption programs

Interpreting and applying policies and procedures

Crisis intervention with clients

Assessing risk and ensuring the safety of children and families

Special Requirements (if applicable):

All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.

Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.

Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.

Staff in this position must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 37.50/hours per week with flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This role offers the potential for a hybrid work arrangement, combining telework opportunities with required days in the office, at the manager's discretion.

Telework eligibility is subject to change as business needs warrant; there is no future guarantee of teleworking.

Hiring Salary Range: $70,921.50 to $97,968.00
