Primary Function The Respiratory Aide II, under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist, provides basic respiratory care to non-acute patients and maintains respiratory supplies and equipment.
Essential Job Functions
Draws arterial and/or capillary blood samples from patients and performs quality controls.
Provides oxygen delivery devices and monitors non-invasive equipment such as oximeters or end-tidal CO₂ analyzers.
Performs basic respiratory therapy techniques including aerosol therapy, postural drainage, percussion, incentive spirometry, and use of metered‑dose inhalers.
Assists with EKGs, monitoring, and basic arrhythmia interpretation.
Maintains, cleans, sterilizes, assembles, and tests respiratory equipment and supplies.
Orders, delivers, and inspects oxygen and other respiratory supplies.
Ensures equipment availability for procedures and exams.
Coordinates repair of broken equipment.
Licensing / Certification Current Respiratory Care Limited Permit (state required) and
BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
(required).
Education A current student in good standing with an AMA‑approved Respiratory Care Program or a recent graduate of such a program.

Working Conditions High stress and fluctuating workloads; exposure to noise, bright lights, hazardous substances, human blood, and frequent interruptions.
Skills Strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective interaction with patients, families, and staff; organization and time‑management; basic computer and troubleshooting skills; knowledge of non‑invasive respiratory equipment and therapeutic procedures.
