Overview This position is responsible for discovery related to litigated claims matters. The Risk Litigation Paralegal partners with internal and external stakeholders to assist with discovery requests, production of documents, identifying corporate witnesses, and participating in deposition preparation sessions with witnesses. This position will develop and execute litigation discovery management strategies to reduce claims costs and increase resolution. The Litigation Paralegal will partner with our TPA and internal Liability Specialists to successfully provide a “Best in Class” claims experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibility is to support efforts for litigation resolution and cost mitigation strategies. This role will support the general liability claims program in the Risk department. The successful candidate will organize and review discovery documents from local counsel across the country for responsiveness and privilege. Independently determine and provide the appropriate documents to produce and assist with answering discovery requests. Determine appropriate corporate representatives to produce for depositions. Assist in preparation sessions to ensure the business is well-represented during depositions. Regularly interact with internal and external legal counsel, insurance representatives, third-party claims administrator, and other stakeholders regarding claim issues. Keep accurate records and files of discovery information and requests. Professionally communicates with third parties and internal business partners.

Organize and review discovery documents from local counsel across the country for responsiveness and privilege related to complex litigated general liability, auto liability, and other claims to reduce costs and improve outcomes.

Provide the appropriate documents to produce and assist with answering discovery requests.

Determine the best corporate representative to produce for depositions across the country and assist in preparation sessions to ensure the business is well-represented during depositions.

Monitor and evaluate the performance of defense firms as necessary to adjust to business climate.

Assist with the coordination and preservation of data for legal holds associated with claims, litigation, and investigations.

Stay current with key changes in the retail claims and litigation environment.

Special projects assigned by department leaders.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications

Paralegal education/certificate

2-5 years of Paralegal experience, preferably in litigation or personal injury.

Strong analytical skills related to investigations, strategies, and discovery reviews

Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to handle difficult situations.

Pro-active and collaborative mindset with an ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, handling multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in a corporate risk management or legal department

Experience with insurance claims, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, or insurance brokers.

Advanced technology skills related to Excel, queries, and insurance company risk management information systems.
