Overview

The County is recruiting for Social Worker II Trainees who provide complex social work services to assist individuals or families in enhancing their capacity for social functioning and assist in developing social service resources. Trainees work under close supervision while acquiring the necessary skills and experience to qualify for promotion to Social Worker II. Positions exist primarily within the Department of Aging and Adult Services, Children and Family Services, the Department of Public Health, and the Department of Behavioral Health. The eligible list established by this recruitment will be used to fill vacancies throughout the County, including those which may arise in other departments. Provide complex social work services to individuals or families. Work under close supervision while acquiring skills and experience to qualify for promotion to Social Worker II. Assist in developing social service resources and service coordination. Visit clients in homes, in the field, and other settings to assess needs and risks as required. Qualifications
Thirty (30) semester units (45 quarter units) of completed college coursework, half of which must be upper division, in behavioral science, psychology, sociology, social services, human services, behavioral anthropology, gerontology, cultural and gender studies, or human development. Note: candidates with degree titles not specified above may be considered if coursework is provided for review. BSW/MSW degrees or coursework approved by the Council on Social Work Education. Degrees completed outside the U.S. must be evaluated for equivalency. Completion documentation: list of completed coursework or copies of transcripts must be submitted with the application unless the applicant possesses a bachelor’s degree in one of the specified areas. Pass an online examination evaluating Social Work Methods and Practices, Customer Service/Interpersonal Skills, and Interviewing/Non-clinical Counseling. Bilingual skills are strongly encouraged (ASL, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, Vietnamese); additional compensation may apply for positions requiring bilingual skills; testing may be required to receive additional compensation. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn departmental computer systems. Travel: valid California Class C Driver License, proof of automobile liability insurance, and clean driving record; mileage reimbursed at current IRS rates. Promotion: eligible for promotion to Social Worker II after completing the trainee period and receiving a satisfactory Work Performance Evaluation; must be promoted within twelve (12) months of hire or be terminated. Incumbents must be able to visit clients in their homes, in the field, and other settings to perform complete assessments of risk factors and to observe injuries and the client’s environment as mandated by the State. Positions in Children and Family Services may require lifting and carrying children up to 50 lbs. Availability
Some positions are assigned to 24-hour programs which may require availability to work day, swing, night, rotating, and/or weekend shifts. Indicate willingness to work these alternate schedules on your application. Benefits
