Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Communications, this position assists with the communication and event coverage efforts for 25 intercollegiate programs, serving as the primary contact for select sports. Roles include keeping statistical web presence, social media, video production, design elements, and a variety of creative content. The position serves as a member of both the Athletics Communications and External Relations teams.
Essential Job Functions:
Serve as a member of the department’s athletics communications team;
Act as primary media contact for a select number of NCAA varsity sports, which includes writing releases/recaps, maintaining statistics, overseeing home event operations and covering away contests;
Assist in the overall communications efforts including website maintenance, graphic design, secondary sport coverage and social media;
Direct and produce live, high-definition video streams for athletic events using various programs (primarily Production Truck);
Assist in producing, shooting and editing video content to be shared via CentreColonels.com and across Centre’s several social media platforms, including but not limited to: feature stories, postgame interviews, press conferences and postgame highlight packages;
Help recruit and oversee Sports Information Department student staff;
Work in conjunction with the External Relations team to strategically share marketing material via various platforms;
Work as a member of the department’s event management team, helping to host home events and postseason SAA and NCAA Tournaments;
Assist in the department’s awards program, including serving on the Centre Athletes Awards Show committee;
Travel with teams as appropriate;
Conduct activities in accordance with all Centre College, Southern Athletic Association, and NCAA DIII rules and regulations;
Represent Centre College to students, parents, community, alumni, and the general public;
Demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to an inclusive academic community, fostering a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff from all social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Some experience with college athletics either as a student-athlete, student employee, or employee is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
Previous experience with Production Truck or live streaming of athletic events required.
Expert communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
Teamwork attitude and a desire to work in a fast-paced, highly successful Division III athletic department a must.
Previous experience in a college athletics department a plus.
Previous experience in a sports information or communications office preferred.
Knowledge of intercollegiate sports.
Experience with Stat Crew, PrestoStats or NCAA LiveStats for various sports.
Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, etc.) or similar software.
Background with graphic design and social media.
Additional qualifications include being self-motivated, visionary, positive, creative, energetic, eager to teach, willingness to travel, and the ability to foster a team environment is needed.
Working weeknights and weekends during home events is required.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate physical activity. Job entails carrying equipment constantly. Standing and or walking for more than four hours per day.
