Speech-Language Pathologist Barbara C Wilson, Woodbury Mon-Fr 7:30-3:00 or 8:00-3:30 35 hrs per week Perform speech-language evaluations and conduct therapy sessions which are appropriate to the development level of the assigned student. Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships with children, their families and staff. Fulfill record keeping and statistical requirements accurately and in a timely manner. May be required to attend evening meetings Qualifications
Qualifications : Master’s degree in speech-language pathology and certification by the New York State Department of Education as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) required. Experience in PROMPT and early childhood special needs population assessment and treatment required. Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of speech-language disorders as normally acquired through completion of a Master’s degree in speech-language pathology required. Primary duties and responsibilities
Evaluate students’ needs and provide speech, language, and hearing services as indicated on IEPs. Develop and implement intervention strategies per child’s IEP; complete and maintain all required paperwork in a timely manner; organize and complete reports and evaluations in an accurate, concise and timely manner. Participate in conferences, including parent and teacher meetings; maintain appropriate professional standards in interactions with families; demonstrate ability to be an effective member of an interdisciplinary team. Supervise Clinical Fellows (CFs) and interns as requested; maintain contact with university supervisors regarding the student intern’s progress. Maintain ASHA membership and certification (CCC) and NYS licensure through completion of continuing education credits and payment of annual dues; supervision of CFs and student interns. Attend CPSE meetings at locations through Long Island and NYC as required; complete CPSE evaluations within two days of diagnostic testing; conduct speech-language screenings as requested; conduct training sessions for teachers, staff and/or parents in areas of speech-language intervention; determine the need and arrange AAC evaluations for students as deemed appropriate. Attend all staff conferences and meetings; maintain ongoing contact with parents regarding a student’s progress and intervention strategies. Consult with interdisciplinary team members regarding appropriate behavioral management options to enhance learning; update IEP goals; outline individualized strategies used to obtain objectives; provide or adapt materials to facilitate language and speech production in the classroom; integrate information and strategies offered by team members and other professionals. Therapy environment management and health/safety responsibilities; adhere to program policies; perform other duties as assigned. Participate in professional development and in-services; pursue continuing education to enhance knowledge relevant to children in the program.
