Base Pay Range $250,000.00/yr - $320,000.00/yr
Summary Primarily responsible for providing OCULOPLASTICS - MEDICAL RETINA - GLAUCOMA - and GENERAL Ophthalmology care to veterans both clinically and surgically to a high pathology population of oculoplastics, cataract, glaucoma, retinal disease and diabetic patients.
Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
PRPs are to have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred Experience: Board certified in Ophthalmology Residency, Completion of a fully accredited US residency program in Ophthalmology, with or without additional fellowship training
Teaching and supervision experience of Medical Student/Residents
Excellent surgical skills are required OCULOPLASTIC, MIGS, cataract surgery and laser surgery
Surgical videos will be requested for review during application process
Experience with medical retina intravitreal injections

Duties
Examine and treat patients functioning as an OCULOPLASTICS - MEDICAL RETINA - MIGS - and CATARACT Ophthalmologist clinically and surgically and determine the need for surgical or non‑surgical treatment of urgent or emergent patients with simple or complex ophthalmology complaints. Complete pre‑operative evaluations and informed consent for patients scheduled for surgery in the ambulatory or main operating rooms. Perform minor and major ophthalmic surgical procedures per routing credentialing and privileging approvals. Ensure appropriate post‑operative care and follow‑up is conducted on patients. Provide resident supervision and education in both clinic and operating room.
Assist in administrative duties as assigned and assist in other needs of the facility as requested and commensurate with training and skills.
A successful candidate would qualify for a faculty appointment at the OUHSC academic affiliate. On‑call night and weekend oculoplastics call, OCULOPLASTIC SURGERY, Cataract Surgery, Intravitreal Injections, Resident Staffing, Resident Lectures, No Research Contract. Buy Out Program: position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP) which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities.
