Position Overview As a Paramedic at Mayers Memorial Healthcare District (MMHD), you will provide advanced life support to patients in critical situations, ensuring they receive appropriate medical attention during transport and at emergency scenes. This role requires swift decision‑making and adherence to medical protocols to assess the severity of illness or injury and determine the best course of action. The Paramedic is responsible for patient care until the patient is safely transferred to a higher level of care, following MMHD and local emergency medical services protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care: Provide high‑quality pre‑hospital care in accordance with the Standard of Care, local LEMSA protocols, and national treatment doctrines.

Collaboration: Engage with hospital staff, physicians, and public service agencies (fire, police, highway patrol) to ensure seamless patient transfers and response coordination.

Public Relations and Education: Serve as an educational resource for the community, students, and coworkers; participate in outreach and educational programs to enhance public understanding of emergency medical services.

Driving and Vehicle Operation: Operate ambulances and other emergency vehicles safely in compliance with California Highway Patrol and DOT driving guidelines.

Professionalism and Ethics: Uphold high standards of integrity, confidentiality, and competency in all interactions.

Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate, timely, and legible documentation of all patient interactions and care provided.

Compliance and Certifications: Keep all required certifications current (Paramedic licensure, ACLS, PALS, BLS/CPR, and driving certifications).

Feedback and Improvement: Provide constructive feedback to management on ways to improve patient care, working conditions, and system performance.

Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other MMHD staff and assist in the Emergency Department during periods of high patient volume or as requested by management.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Perform significant physical activity, including lifting and carrying patients and medical equipment, operating under adverse conditions, and managing various environmental hazards.

Qualifications

Certifications: Valid California Paramedic certification, Sierra Sacramento Valley certification, and American Heart Association certifications (ACLS, PALS, BLS/CPR). Must hold a valid CA Ambulance Driver’s License with Medical Examiner’s Certification.

Driving Requirements: Clean California Driver’s License and excellent driving record; experience operating emergency vehicles and navigating ALS systems is highly desirable.

Communication and Attitude: Strong verbal and written communication skills; positive working attitude, adaptability to change, and ability to work effectively in a team.

Additional Experience: Pre‑hospital EMS experience, public education experience in the field or classroom, and experience operating in an ALS system or driving emergency vehicles are highly valued.

Supervision

No direct supervision responsibilities. However, the Paramedic may serve as a mentor or educator for students, coworkers, and the public.

Technology And Privacy

Computer Use: Stay updated with company communications via email and other digital platforms to ensure seamless internal communication.

Patient Privacy: Adherence to strict privacy policies regarding patient information; only access and share protected health information as necessary for job duties, and report any violations.

Work Schedule And Additional Duties

Availability for overtime and assignment of additional duties beyond those explicitly listed. Flexibility in work hours and assignments is essential to meet the role’s demands and maintain quality patient care.
