Teaching Assistant Professor in Hindi-Urdu
The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a renewable three-year appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor in Hindi-Urdu language, beginning July 1, 2026. We are seeking a skilled language instructor with a commitment to a proficiency-based approach to language teaching.

Position Summary The Teaching Assistant Professor will teach six language courses per academic year, from introductory to advanced levels, and will actively collaborate in Hindi-Urdu program development and activities and perform other departmental service.
Responsibilities
Teach six language courses per academic year, covering introductory to advanced levels.
Collaborate in program development and curriculum design for the Hindi-Urdu program.
Engage in departmental service and service to the university community.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Hindi, Urdu, Hindi-Urdu, or a related field focused on teaching Hindi-Urdu as a second language.
Native or near-native proficiency in Hindi-Urdu and English, with strong proficiency in both Hindi (Devanagari) and Urdu (Nastaliq) scripts.
Familiarity with methods and technologies used in teaching Hindi-Urdu as a second language at the university level, particularly in the US.
