Job Description Eurofins Environment Testing Northwest is searching for a Laboratory Technician to assist in our Culturing Department. The department supports the maintenance and care of aquatic species, specifically Ameriamysis bahia (mysid shrimp), Menidia beryllina (inland silverside), and fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas), in a controlled laboratory environment. The Laboratory Technician I uses general laboratory methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation in compliance with Eurofins Environment Testing’s Quality Assurance programs and SOPs, and supports laboratory operations through general maintenance of laboratory and supply storage areas, equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Responsibilities
Retrieve samples from Sample Control for analysis.
Perform sample preparation including but not limited to: aliquot samples, spike and trace samples, prepare reagents, bottle samples, prepare concentrations, separation, and resolve discrepancies and anomalies to ensure samples are properly labeled.
Prepare general laboratory paperwork such as recording analysis results, tracking samples, bench sheets, and laboratory logbooks.
Wash laboratory glassware to prepare for next day’s samples.
Stock laboratory supplies.
Clean work area(s) to maintain a safe working environment.
Assist other laboratory areas as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma required.
Degree in Marine Biology, Wildlife Biology, or equivalent preferred.
Aquarium experience preferred.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 25 lbs.
Must be available for overtime and weekends when required.
Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write, and speak in English.
Additional Preferred Experience
Basic knowledge of aquatic biology and ecology.
Experience with water quality testing (pH, salinity, temperature, ammonia, DO).
Proficiency in maintaining and calibrating aquarium equipment (filters, pumps, heaters).
Prior familiarity with fish and aquariums is ideal.
Understanding of feeding protocols and nutritional requirements for these species.
Ability to monitor and record fish and shrimp health, behavior, and growth.
Skill in maintaining clean and sterile environments to prevent contamination.
Knowledge of breeding and larval rearing techniques for aquatic species.
Additional Information Full‑time position Sunday through Thursday 9 am to 5 pm, with possible overtime and weekend as needed.
Compensation: $17–$20 per hour.
