Overview North Pole Veterinary Hospital in North Pole, AK is seeking a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. North Pole Veterinary Hospital is an 9‑doctor practice that proudly serves the community and surrounding areas of Alaska. We are dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of veterinary technology to ensure our patients have access to the best care available. We are proud to be an innovative hospital that provides extensive and comprehensive services to our clients, including chemotherapy, advanced soft tissue procedures, orthopedic surgeries, and emergency surgeries. Our team provides care for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, and some breeds of reptiles/exotics like bearded dragons.

Compensation $26–28 per hour, depending on experience.

Location 2942 Hurst Road, North Pole, AK 99705

Hours Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–6 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Closed on Sundays.

Job Summary The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) provides leadership and training to the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility. The LVT offers medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act, communicates effectively with team members and clients, and maintains strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.

Responsibilities

Maintain and uphold core values and mission statement of MVP.

Provide guidance to the support staff to ensure that shifts flow well.

Mentor team members for career advancement and personal development.

Provide input to the hospital manager for 360‑degree employee performance evaluations.

Provide patient care under the supervision and direction of a DVM.

Maintain excellent client communication.

Record all pertinent medical, client, and case‑related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar, terms, and information.

Review medical records, estimates, or discharge instructions with clients.

Answer clients’ inquiries about basic animal care questions and routine procedures; handle medical questions with confidence and direct to veterinarians when appropriate.

Qualifications

Proficient in laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental, and nursing skills.

Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations and handle a fast‑paced environment.

Ability to remain calm and efficient during a medical crisis.

Ability to give SQ, IM, and IV injections.

Knowledge of dosage and common side‑effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to explain them to clients.

Knowledge of common anesthesia and recovery states and ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change.

Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature, and recover a patient from anesthesia.

Strong reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and language abilities.

Confidence around pets.
