Overview

JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Provide Occupational Therapy services to all patients at a level consistent with Baton Rouge Rehabilitation Hospital (BRRH) mission, vision, and values. Completes patient assessments and treatments. Responsibilities

Assess patients, plan and implement treatment, and periodically re-evaluate progress toward goals, adjusting the treatment plan accordingly. Utilize standardized testing to document current levels and progress. Formulate plans based on evaluation results, patient input, discharge goals, interdisciplinary team goals, available technology and resources, age-related norms, and evidence-based best practices. Provide safe, effective, individualized treatment focused on functional tasks including ADLs, IADLs, and equipment usage as identified in the needs assessment to improve endurance, strength, and range of motion using therapeutic exercise as an adjunct when appropriate. Provide hands-on training to patients and families for transfers, mobility, and functional independence, and provide a hard copy of the home exercise program. Adapt the patient’s environment to facilitate progress, both inside and outside therapy, and utilize technology to maximize gains. Assess and recommend equipment within the time frame required for training and/or discharge. Assess, recommend, plan, and provide home evaluations, family training, and community re-entry as appropriate to maximize outcomes. Provide age-specific direct and indirect patient care for school-age (6-12), adolescent (12-18), adult (18-65), and elderly (65+). Documentation

Document all aspects of therapeutic patient care in a thorough and timely manner according to departmental, Medicare, and Joint Commission documentation standards. Uphold ethical principles via accurate documentation and charging. Team and Collaboration

Collaborate with team members to assure a comprehensive interdisciplinary patient program. Be present, prepared, and participatory for interdisciplinary team conferences, patient-related conferences, and meetings. Work with outside vendors and case managers to order patient-specific equipment when funding is verified. Provide staff training to promote individual patient progress regarding equipment, transfers, mobility, etc. Communicate information for authorizations in a timely manner to minimize disruption in care. Education and Department Tasks

Self-initiate continuing education for licensure requirements and stay current with treatment approaches and/or equipment. Be present, prepared, and participatory in mandatory meetings. Participate in department management tasks; supervise, train, mentor, and orient PRN, licensed assistants, rehab techs, students, hospital staff, and volunteers. Complete assigned projects by due date and independently fulfill license and hospital education requirements by deadlines. Compliance and Safety

Follow Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest, Medicare, Joint Commission Guidelines, Occupational Therapy Practice Act, and hospital policies and procedures. HIPAA: Maintain knowledge of and adhere to applicable HIPAA regulations related to medical records, patient information, scheduling, demographics, billing, and related data. Performance Improvement

Actively participate in Performance Improvement activities and incorporate quality standards in job performance. Provide suggestions for process improvement and recommend equipment or supplies to enhance the program. Safety

Participate in and promote patient and employee safety practices; maintain knowledge of and adherence to safety practices related to incident reporting, waste handling, PPE, exposure control, hand hygiene, environment of care, patient identification, orders, and monitoring of patients and alarms. Report safety concerns and malfunctioning equipment promptly to the supervisor, facilities maintenance, or biomed. Other Tasks

Work on holidays, weekends, and during emergencies as required to meet patient needs and IRF guidelines. Accept and supervise students when assigned. Use KRONOS or the App to clock in/out, request time off, monitor timecards, benefits, and notifications. Manage daily schedule considering patient needs and co-worker schedules; assist other departments as needed due to census, skill set, or schedule. Volunteer for or participate in hospital teams, committees, projects, and marketing as assigned. Qualifications and Requirements

Louisiana State licensure required. Oral and written communication skills required. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Good organizational skills. CPR certified. Physical criteria: • Lifting Medium: ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; 10-25 pounds frequently; 0-10 pounds constantly with frequent lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds. • Ability to bend and have adequate physical strength to lift and assist with transfers and resistive activities.
