Overview The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is currently seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our team. This is a full-time, FLSA nonexempt opportunity.
Responsibilities
Assist with daily care of animals scheduled for spay/neuter surgery, plan and organize the daily surgery schedule, and maintain a clean, sterile prep and surgery room.
Provide anesthetic induction, monitor physiological parameters during anesthesia, and assist the surgeon during procedures.
Assist with recovery of patients and discharge, including client education.
Clean and disinfect tables, floors, kennels, and surgical equipment; maintain surgical instruments and prepare surgical packs.
Enter surgery records into the database and complete appropriate paperwork.
Assist veterinarian with examinations, treatments, and diagnostics; input data into ezyVet for exams, medications, and treatments.
Educate, train, and assist clinic volunteers; educate clients on pre- and post-surgical care.
Support the community clinic environment by cleaning and maintaining areas and following disease control protocols.
Teach and demonstrate sanitation protocols and procedures to staff members involved in animal care; provide orientation and training to veterinary technician students and veterinary assistants.
Attend continuing education and participate in ongoing professional development.
Assist with inventory, ordering supplies, and managing controlled substance logs.
Promote a safe working environment, maintain equipment, and support the organization’s goals and mission. Assist with euthanasia as needed.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
Washington State Certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (or ability to obtain WA Certification within a reasonable time).
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of 1-year experience performing feline/canine dentals.
Minimum of 1-year work experience in high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter settings.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; strong verbal and written communication.
Effective organizational skills; ability to operate multiple tasks in a demanding environment.
Ability to lift 50 lbs safely and carry it at least 25 feet; detail-oriented with good judgment.
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of HSSW; understands the importance of spay/neuter in addressing pet overpopulation.
Ability to maintain and organize written and computerized records; comfortable monitoring anesthesia and assisting the surgeon.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions The Licensed Veterinary Technician must be able to work and communicate with people and groups of people. Duties include standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, listening, stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Work is performed in a clinical environment with exposure to animals and standard shelter conditions, seven days per week, potential exposure to fractious animals, high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal bites and scratches, cleaning chemicals, and allergens.
Salary $28-$34/hour
