Overview

Health and Nutrition Manager for Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP). WCAP\'s Early Childhood Program serves children and families in Waldo County ages birth to five years old, as well as pregnant mothers. Services are delivered through a home visiting model, pre-k collaborations with area school districts and centers in Belfast and Searsport. The role is responsible for the organization and implementation of the health, safety, and nutrition content area according to Head Start Performance Standards. Salary Range

is

$21.91 - 24.00

depending on qualifications and experience.

Sign on Incentive of $3,000 Available

Health and Nutrition Coordination and Supervision of Children: Monitor classrooms to ensure ongoing safe and healthy environments in partnership with Site Supervisors. Monitor the ongoing health status and needs of enrolled children by ensuring completion of health checks, incident reports, administration of medications per program policies, and implementation of exclusion and readmittance policies and procedures. Identify and support staff and families in meeting 30-day medical home, dental home, insurance, and immunization mandates; educate families on importance. Obtain hearing and vision screenings for each child within 45 days of enrollment; forward results and notify families within 10 days of screening. Identify and support staff and families who have not provided required medical/dental screening forms within 90 days of enrollment; work with Family Advocates to assist families and notify the Director of cases needing attention. Collaborate with area school nurses and School Nutrition Directors at collaboration sites. In collaboration with the Primary Care Physician, classroom teachers, and parent(s), develop Individual Health Plans (IHP) for health concerns; coordinate ongoing care with Primary Care Physician. Provide staff with information to distribute to families on nutrition and health-related issues and communicable disease outbreaks monthly. Monitor local health trends and respond appropriately; coordinate health activities within the curriculum (including daily tooth brushing and hand washing). Ensure post-partum health visits occur for all enrolled pregnant women; provide consultation and support to Family Service Staff to meet federal and state regulations. Coordinate with Nutrition Consultant to ensure dietary needs are met and Nutrition Plans are created as needed. Conduct heights and weights for Head Start children within 30 days of enrollment and again in spring; report BMI percentages to families in late fall. Supplies And Equipment Management: Ensure kitchen staff maintain up-to-date inventory; coordinate equipment servicing and procurement; place orders through vendors and manage distribution of supplies to centers. Records Management: Capture and enter health and nutrition data; maintain health records in ChildPlus; monitor medical/dental data, screenings, immunizations, and follow-up; update health resources list annually; issue purchase orders as needed; report health and nutrition information to staff, Policy Council, and Board of Directors; develop monthly menus meeting Head Start Performance Standards and CACFP requirements with Nutrition Consultant approval; update nutrition forms as needed. Personnel Management And Supervision: Provide technical assistance for Early Head Start kitchen staff; coordinate nutrition and food service training; support and assist staff at school sites; manage personnel actions, hiring, supervision, and evaluations; ensure compliance with laws and WCAP policies; oversee professional development for direct reports. Planning And Coordination: Update nutrition and health plans annually with Health Advisory Committee, staff, Policy Council, and WCAP Board; organize Health Advisory Committee meetings; coordinate parent trainings on health issues; manage purchase of health supplies and distribution monitoring; ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; lead content area training for staff and families; maintain relationships with consultants and MOUs; participate in Maine State Health Coordinators group; provide mealtime management and family-style serving guidance; collaborate with Early Childhood Director and School Food Service Directors on dietary needs and substitutions. Qualifications

Must be able to pass a physical examination and TB screening. Must have adequate transportation, a valid driver\'s license and meet WCAP\'s insurance requirements. Must meet WCAP\'s background clearance requirements. Valid Criminal Record History Check (CHRC) through DOE. Experience And Education

At least three years of work experience in the health and nutrition field, preferably with young children. Strong communication, organizational, observational, and meeting facilitation skills. Basic computer literacy; proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; familiarity with Head Start Standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent time management and organizational abilities. Bachelor\'s Degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Human Development, or related field required; Licensed Registered Nurse may be preferred; other certifications related to child health are noted as preferred.
