The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Mental Health Program Specialist 4.
Job Duties
Coordinate all day-to-day operations during their assigned shift, advise and provide information on member progress/issues and staffing needs/scheduling.
Read and study instructional or information material to increase knowledge base related to members served.
Review and evaluate the quality of services provided by staff, evaluating work performance and providing feedback.
Administrative oversight for medication administration and monitoring.
Review assessments of member needs, prepare progress reports, collect member-related data, and document it in required formats.
Conduct individual and/or group facilitation and/or assist in specialized therapy programs; co-lead or lead therapeutic treatment.
Interact in one-to-one sessions with members in problem-solving.
Attend and actively participate in Planning Team/Treatment Plan meetings; coordinate and monitor each member's behavior plan.
Respond to emergency situations, including behavioral, psychiatric, and medical emergencies; assess conditions, evaluate physical status, and administer first aid.
Serve as liaison to behavioral health entities, DDD’s clinical staff, and other providers; discuss concerns and offer suggestions.
Provide on-the-job training to subordinates, monitor staff competencies, and ensure compliance with safety policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Management and leadership techniques for coordinating or leading lower-level staff.
Mental health principles and techniques involved in treatment.
Principles and techniques for teaching people with developmental disabilities in daily living skills.
Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
Procedures and techniques for developing Individual Treatment Plans for clients with developmental disabilities and significant behavioral/psychiatric issues.
Problem-solving techniques.
Application of body mechanics when utilizing physical restraint in emergencies.
Basic behavior building techniques.
Skills
Teaching and learning principles; applying behavior-building and re-motivation techniques.
Recognizing client disorientation, aggressiveness, and combative behavior.
Crisis intervention techniques.
Application of body mechanics and interaction strategies in uncontrolled situations.
Leading recreational activities and daily living skills training.
Oral and written communication with staff, clients, and families.
Communication policies and procedures; directions to lower-level staff.
Abilities
Implement and develop behavior plans.
Provide specialized care, treatment, behavioral intervention, and security for individuals with developmental disabilities and psychiatric/behavioral issues.
Interpersonal relations with staff, clients, community, and families.
Delegate responsibilities, prioritize tasks, resolve problems, and handle emergency staffing situations.
Selective Preferences
5 years of experience in care and treatment of individuals with an intellectual and/or developmental disability and behavioral health AND/OR 5 years in Behavioral Health; OR Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling with a clinical emphasis substitutes for the required experience; OR Bachelor’s degree in above fields with emphasis substitutes for 3 years of required experience AND 3 years of supervisory experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid driver’s license if the position requires driving vehicle for state business; maintain required driver training and records.
Successfully pass background and reference check; employment contingent on completion of the process and agency ability to accommodate restrictions.
Valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes 41-1968.
Subject to search of the Department of Child Safety Central Registry and Adult Protective Services Registry.
All newly hired state employees must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
