Location of the Position(s) to be filled:
Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, Western Mental Health Institute, Hardeman County
Position Details:
This is an on‑site, interim appointment not to exceed one (1) year. The position requires a criminal background check. A valid motor vehicle operator license may be required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician training course or passing an equivalent examination.
Valid driver's license with required endorsements (if applicable).
Overview Under general supervision, the Psychiatric Technician provides psychiatric technical work of average difficulty and performs related work as required. Responsibilities may include daily living care, individualized teaching, group teaching, and provision of supervised medical assistance. The Technician may work as a unit coordinator or admissions clerk, performing clerical duties such as entering patient information into a database, ordering supplies, and explaining admission procedures. The position may require working days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
Provides basic and/or emergency psychiatric medical assistance under direct supervision.
Teaches patients to function at the highest daily living level through demonstration and instruction.
Identifies patients at risk and follows established protocols for specific risks.
Rescues injured patients and escorts patients to appropriate areas during an emergency.
Restrains patients to prevent injuries to themselves and others.
Reports observed progression or regression in patients that may indicate training or treatment needs.
Maintains a sanitary living environment and cleans work areas.
Explains HIPAA laws, patient rights, admission procedures, vital signs, and laboratory procedures.
