The Clinical Dietitian Nutrition II is a fully competent and experienced dietitian responsible for providing comprehensive nutritional care to patients of all ages, including those in critical care (ICU and PICU). This role includes assessing nutritional needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, educating patients and families, and collaborating with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes. The Dietitian will modify diet orders, recommend enteral feeding plans, and ensure ongoing evaluation of nutritional interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nutritional care to assigned patients through assessment, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition plans.
Modify diet orders and recommend appropriate enteral formulas and nutritional supplements.
Cover all inpatient units and provide outpatient support, including participation in multidisciplinary rounds.
Perform initial nutrition screenings to classify patients by nutrition risk level (low, moderate, high).
Complete comprehensive nutrition assessments for moderate- and high-risk patients within 24‑48 hours of admission.
Conduct nutrition assessments for low-risk patients within seven days of admission.
Calculate nutritional requirements, including calories, fluids, and protein needs, using standardized formulas.
Monitor patient progress and reassess nutritional plans as needed.
Coordinate nutrition-related aspects of patient discharge, including home enteral feeding arrangements and supplement delivery.
Refer patients to other clinical services as appropriate (e.g., GI Nutrition, Social Services, Speech Therapy, Integrative Medicine).
Required Skills & Experience
2-4 years of clinical nutrition experience.
Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities.
Excellent time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
Proven ability to build effective relationships with patients and healthcare teams.
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience in oncology or a similar specialty area.
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics.
Preferred: Master’s Degree in a related field.
Certifications & Licensure
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (Commission on Dietetic Registration).
Certified Dietitian Nutritionist within 12 months of employment (New York positions only).
