General Summary of Position MedStar Health is looking for a Cath/IR Lab Technologist to join our team at MedStar Health Southern Maryland Hospital located in Clinton, MD.

As a Cath/IR Lab Technologist, you will assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath/Angio/EP Lab, specializing in care of patients undergoing PTCA, stent placement, IABP placement, embolization of vascular bleeds, thrombolysis catheter insertion, and EP devices and ablations. Additionally, you will assist physicians with nonvascular procedures such as percutaneous drain placements, gastrostomies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and other interventional radiology procedures. Primary Duties

Assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena, specializing in care of patients undergoing basic and complex diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Complex diagnostic procedures may include valvular and congenital defects, pulmonary involvement, radial, brachial and neck approaches, OR (Operating Room), portable procedures, and any research protocols.

Performs basic and complex interventional, angiography, and electrophysiological procedures. Provides patient care during sheath removal including IABP, temporary pacer and central venous/arterial catheters. Ensures safe and efficient operation of equipment. Cross-training is mandatory. Serves in data entry, generating accurate reports from diagnostic or interventional procedures. Assists in the orientation of employees and students as requested by management.

Responsible for patient transportation, effective communication, and evaluation of patient status during the procedure, including age and gender specific care, prep of access site according to lab standards, and EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. Manages room preparation and breakdown, including fluid preparation with accurate contrast concentrations, stocking rooms, daily quality control checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup. Prepares sterile procedure trays and maintains the sterile field.

Participates in rotating roles during the day: room circulator (patient interaction, monitoring/vital signs, procedural documentation, setup of equipment such as IABP, power injector, temporary pacer, biopsy, sterile equipment/catheters/balloons/wires handoffs, and blood oximetry for cardiac output), scrub (maintains sterile technique and infection control, ensures catheter/balloon/manifold patency), and monitor (controls x-ray equipment and hemodynamic monitoring, reports EKG/BP/HR/pulse ox changes, records hemodynamic pressures, and transfers images to the digital archive).

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Graduate of an Accredited Radiological Technology college.

1-2 years recent Cath/IR Lab experience.

Active Maryland license and one of the following certifications: ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology), CVRN-Level III Cardiovascular - Cath Lab, Intervention RCIS, RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist), RCES (Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist), or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International).

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) within 90 days.

This position has a hiring range of $34.98 - $62.52.
