Job Description Summary Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success. Fox Valley Technical College is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to teach General Biology. General Biology introduces general biological concepts and principles. Emphasis is on cell structure and function, genetics, evolution and taxonomical relationships. Consideration is also given to diversity among the various kingdoms. This course emphasizes an environmental perspective.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and online course delivery.
Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to student persistence, retention, completion rate, course success, and learning and to design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the division, department, and team members, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and the integration of new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's degree in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
A Master's degree AND 18 graduate credits in the discipline or subfield they teach, OR
A Master's degree AND appropriate licensure in the discipline or subfield they teach.
Education and Training
Graduate-level courses in the discipline/subfield and methods courses that are specifically for the teaching of that discipline/subfield may be considered for meeting the 18 graduate credit hour minimum.
Non-US degrees/courses may provide a different scope of practice in other countries. Courses to be reviewed on an individual basis.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
Valid Driver's License.
Subject to FVTC's Motor Vehicle Records Disclosure Check.
Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
Strong verbal communication skills.
Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
Prior teaching or training experience preferred.
Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor.
Must also meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and/or other job-specific licensing standards.
Prior to hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
Physical Requirements
Mobility: ability to move around the classroom.
Standing and Sitting: ability to stand for extended periods and sit for grading, office hours, and administrative tasks.
Speech and Hearing: clear speech and ability to hear students' questions.
Fine Motor Skills: precise hand movements for writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology.
Visual Acuity: adequate vision to read course materials and operate instructional equipment.
Health and Safety: ensure a safe learning environment.
Repetitive Motions: capacity to perform repetitive typing motions.
Communication: clear verbal and written communication skills.
Work Environment
Work is typically performed in a classroom.
Work can be completed in a virtual environment.
Work may be completed in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually.

Additional Information Hourly pay rate: $45.00.
Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis, with total hours ranging from approximately 3 to 8 hours per week, depending on schedule and delivery format.
