First Shift (United States of America) — 7-10 hour shifts; 4-5 shifts per week depending on setting; overtime infrequent. Job Description Summary
The Speech Pathologist I (Outpatient) is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients referred to the facility. This includes patient evaluation, development and implementation of an appropriate treatment plan, delivery of treatment services, and comprehensive discharge planning. The therapist functions as an effective team member and contributes to the development and achievement of department and organizational goals and objectives. Essential Functions
Evaluates and implements competent therapy treatment and provides regular re-assessments for treatment modification to maximize patients’ potential for functional independence, in accordance with practice guidelines and department policies and procedures. Communicates patient status (evaluation results, treatment plan, and goals) by providing timely written or verbal communication to physicians and therapy customers (e.g., patients). Establishes and maintains effective working relations with patients, family members, internal customers, and external customers. Understands the financial implications of treatment costs and resources on the department/facility and provides cost-effective treatment programming to served populations. Ensures patient charges and clinical documentation are in compliance with regulatory standards and department policies and procedures. Oversees rehab technicians, therapy assistants, and students consistent with discipline practice acts and organization/department policies. Self-monitors workflow to ensure productivity, standards of practice, and regulatory requirements are met; reviews staff work accordingly. Participates in program development, performance improvement activities, and community events sponsored by the organization. Responds to feedback/concerns professionally with effective listening, problem solving, and participatory management when situations arise. Escalates equipment and supply needs through appropriate channels. Assumes additional leadership responsibilities as needed to support department goals. Maintains equipment and environment in a safe and orderly manner. Contributes to the organization and operation of department/programs within the organization’s strategic plan and mission statement. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Functions
Assists with interviewing, selecting, and orienting new personnel. Completes required documentation and maintains records to ensure regulatory compliance. Acts as a role model for professional growth and department advancement. Demonstrates efficiency and productivity by organizing job duties and responsibilities. Participates in departmental/programmatic meetings and constructively expresses concerns and ideas. Escalates equipment and supply needs; participates in leadership activities as needed. Maintains a safe and orderly work environment. Contributes to the organization and operation of department programs within the organization’s mission. Performs other duties as assigned.
