Medical Assistant (MA) - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – St. Rita's Family Medicine Location: Lima, OH Bon Secours Mercy Health is dedicated to continually improving health care quality, safety and cost effectiveness. Summary of Primary Function / General Purpose of Position

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional that provides indirect and/or direct patient care within the scope of practice and in alignment with standards of excellence and quality. Under the direction of the provider, the Medical Assistant supports the completion of the patient’s chief complaint, documents patient/family needs, participates in planning and implementing care, and administers ordered medications (oral, injection, topical, etc.) within the MA scope and state guidelines. Essential Job Functions

Understands and adheres to the legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role. Identifies significant changes in patient condition through data collection and reports them to the provider. Troubleshoots issues and escalates problems to the provider, direct supervisor, or appropriate internal resource. Maintains standards of excellence in care in all interactions with internal and external customers. Maintains clinical and administrative skills per departmental competency guidelines to meet patient care and daily operational needs. Guides patients to examination rooms and prepares them for the physician. Travels to other facilities for providers or adjusts hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the practice manager as needed. Maintains a safe and supportive environment by keeping the work area, exam rooms, and equipment clean, orderly, and safe, ensuring supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly. Assists patients and providers with virtual health visits, including setup, pre-charting, patient readiness, troubleshooting, and collecting relevant patient details prior to the visit. Documents in electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and appropriately. Manages in-basket messages in the EHR under the provider’s instructions. May perform front desk workflows (e.g., MyChart requests, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check-in/check-out). Follows up on orders, appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits; collects co-pays as needed. Other duties include, but are not limited to, ordering supplies, tracking referrals, labs and diagnostic tests; disposing of contaminated supplies, etc. Note: This document is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Active Medical Assisting certification from one of the following (required): CMA; RMA; CCMA; NHA; NRCMA; NCMA; NCCT If MA certification is not obtainable, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina) BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for certain locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at other locations) Education

High School/GED (required) Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant post-secondary education program (preferred in all states except South Carolina) In South Carolina: various acceptable pathways described (see job posting) including accredited MA programs or military-related programs Work Experience

Completion of externship or clinical lab training (preferred). Skills

1 year of recent Medical Assisting experience (preferred) Medical terminology; attention to detail; strong oral and written communication Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with patients, families, and teams in a high-volume environment Ability to document medical histories, vital signs, administer medications, collect specimens, and perform routine laboratory tasks Proficiency with standard office equipment and EMR/EHR systems What We Offer
