Minimum Qualifications: DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.

Position Summary: The Department of Large Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, invites applications for a clinical-track faculty position in Farm Practice in the Field Services Section at the rank of clinical assistant/associate professor. The Field Services Section offers General Large Animal Ambulatory Service, Theriogenology, General Farm Practice, and Production Medicine Services. The General Farm Practice Service provides primary and selected specialized veterinary care to a mixed large animal population in the field. The General Large Animal Ambulatory Service serves a diverse large animal caseload (majority equine) in the greater Athens, GA area and provides teaching opportunities for veterinary students, interns, and residents.

As a clinical track position, most of the faculty member’s time will be allocated to clinical teaching and service. The specific faculty assignment will be tailored to the candidate’s interests in conjunction with the missions of the Farm Practice service and Departmental needs. The ideal candidate would be willing to work with first-opinion large animal cases (equine, small ruminant, bovine, camelid, and pet pig). Expertise in equine routine/preventative care and emergencies is required, and willingness to provide care to other large animal species is expected. Expertise, interest, and/or advanced training in an area that complements the current team is advantageous. The successful candidate should promote a diverse caseload and augment services to best serve teaching and service needs of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Service to clients is integral to hospital duties. All faculty are expected to participate in scholarly activity related to clinical service and teaching; establishing an independent research program is not expected. Collaborative research and continuing education programs for veterinarians and the public are encouraged.

The employment start date for the successful candidate is negotiable but targeted for Fall 2025.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent degree and 2 years post-DVM experience in large animal practice.

To be considered for the rank of Clinical Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent degree and a minimum of 7 years post-DVM experience at the time of appointment; board certification in a relevant discipline or an approved exception.

Additional Requirements: To obtain and maintain a Georgia veterinary license and eligibility for a Georgia driver’s license. Board certification is encouraged but not required; candidates without board certifications should have primary care large animal practice expertise or other qualifying accomplishments. Teaching and clinical service experience with veterinary students is advantageous.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication and interpersonal skills; organized, team-oriented, and adaptable. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting up to 20 lbs, and working around large animals.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching: clinical and preclinical teaching of veterinary students, supervision of interns and residents. Farm Animal Practice Rotation (~35-40% EFT); Preclinical teaching remainder.

Research: original studies focused on areas relevant to the field (e.g., equine podiatry, lameness, imaging); 1-2 studies/year with abstracts and publications.

Service: clinical service to the teaching hospital, involvement with professional associations, faculty search committees, and authoring relevant chapters.
