The Division of Geriatric Medicine and Palliative Care (a nationally recognized division-- ranked #2 in Geriatrics in US News & World Report) at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine is seeking board certified or eligible (Palliative Care Medicine or Dual Certification in Geriatric and Palliative Care Medicine) clinician educators or clinician scholars at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor level to join the Inpatient Palliative Care Consult Service based at the NYU Langone Brooklyn Hospital.
Clinical Role and Responsibilities:
Perform inpatient and emergency department Palliative Care consultations in alignment with the mission of the service
Evaluate and manage Palliative Care consults addressing key Palliative Care issues including - complex goals of care discussions, end-of-life care/symptom management, end-of-life care decision-making, and hospice care discussions/decision-making.
The NYU Tisch/ Kimmel Hospital Campus will serve as the primary clinical site; however, depending on the needs of the Division, patient volume, and clinical staffing, clinical activities may also be performed at the NYU Langone Brooklyn and Langone Orthopedic Hospital Campuses if necessary
Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of combined physicians, advanced practice providers, social workers, Chaplains, and nurses.
Maintain close coordination with the Geriatrics, Neurology, Oncology and Psychiatry as well as other consultant teams also serving this population
Actively participate in the training of fellows, house staff, medical students, and other learners rotating through the service; contribute to fulfillment of the established curriculum
Collaborate with primary surgical, internal medicine, and emergency medicine teams to develop and refine new processes to facilitate early consultation
Participate in nights and weekend coverage of patients on the Consult service
Participate in quality improvement activities to evaluate the quality of the Service
