Summary Under the supervision of the Medical Director and LifePACT Manager or designee, performs the role of Paramedic, including delivery of patient care, training, equipment use and maintenance, and research efforts. Maintains clinical skills, knowledge of literature in the field, outreach, and training objectives. The position does not supersede the RN role in patient care once responsibility for a patient is transferred from the paramedic to the RN. Responsibilities
Perform non‑invasive patient care alongside the critical care paramedic during transport in accordance with established standards, protocols and policies under the supervision of the medical director or designee.
Provide comprehensive, effective and safe non‑invasive care to any patient transported by LifePACT.
Assist in development of patient care protocols and methods.
Participate in training curricula, research, and assist in writing presentations and papers for publication; present findings at conferences.
Complete patient documentation (written and electronic) per Rhode Island Hospital and Rhode Island Department of Health requirements in a timely manner to support billing.
Perform public education, marketing and outreach with a positive, cheerful attitude toward patients, families, co‑workers, staff of other facilities and the public.
Maintain a clean operational environment; retrieve, stock and clean medical equipment.
Attend required staff and educational meetings; remain current with relevant literature.
Respond to on‑call to emergencies, disasters and major incidents; report to remote locations as needed.
Assist with emergency department communications and dispatch and perform clerical assistance as assigned.
Qualifications
Current State of Rhode Island EMT‑Paramedic license with a minimum of 1 year field EMS experience.
Current Paramedic certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications (instructor status preferred).
Valid and current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Nursing or related field preferred.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills; proficiency with computer use and research methodology.
Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) certification within one year of employment.
Uphold LifePACT policies and procedures, safety standards, and clinical skill proficiency within scope of practice.
Prepared for unrestricted travel in ambulances, cars, trucks, boats, airplanes and helicopters.
Physical Requirements
Perform in cramped quarters, varying weather conditions, and hazardous material exposures.
Maintain physical condition for running, climbing, carrying equipment, and lifting patients.
Stand erect, squat, lift 175 pounds between two people (agility testing annually).
Perform CPR, patient lifting, bandaging, IV insertion, and other fine motor skills.
Visual acuity: Far vision for driving and landmark identification; near vision for reading and writing.
Hearing adequate for communication, equipment sounds, alarms, radios.
Stamina for CPR for extended periods; dynamic and explosive strength for ladder access and patient transport.
Salary and Benefits Pay Range: $26.09 – $41.40 per hour.
